Ease of use is key in a busy smoking cessation clinic – results are displayed immediately from a single breath
Ease of use is key in a busy smokefree clinic – results from a single breath are immediately shown in parts per million (PPM) and % carboxyhemoglobin (%COHb). Clear visual guidance is also provided through red, yellow, and green indicators depending on the exhaled carbon monoxide concentration, indicating whether a person is a non-smoker, light smoker, or heavy smoker.
Additionally, the CO Check Pro can also detect ambient carbon monoxide levels. When environmental measurement is enabled, background CO levels are taken into account during the breath test. For example, if the background level is 10 ppm, this 10 ppm reading is considered during the test, allowing clear identification of possible environmental exposure. Ambient levels are displayed in PPM units.
It is generally accepted and recognized that a non-smoker will test at 6 ppm or less. A light smoker will test at 7–10 ppm, and a smoker at 11–20 ppm. A heavy smoker will have a reading of 21 ppm or higher.
